Along the 11th century takes place in Europe an outstanding event in the field of construction: the birth of the cross-ribbed vault. Unlike what is traditionally thought, the origins of this vault trace back to the Romanesque style and, although it attains its maturity in the following centuries, well within the Gothic period, it reaches the peak in its development in the 16th century, all along the Renaissance period.
